Effect of Ethephon on Growth, Enlargement and Flowering of Gladiolus Cormels

Abstract

|
This experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of ethephon on sprouting, growth, corm and cormel production of Gladiolus ´Hunting Song´, ´Spic and Span´, ´Topaz´, and ´White Friendship´, and on characteristics of flowering in next generation. Sprouting ratio was increased by the ethephon treatment, and days to sprouting was shortened in all cultivars except ´Hunting Song´. Corm fresh weight was increased with the ethephon treatment and decreased cormel numbers and weight. Ethephon effect was appeared from mid growing period in ´White Frendship´. Growth and flowering in next generation, and plant height was short, and number of florets was decreased by the ethephon treatment.
